CEO

Altman is one of the most powerful execs in the booming artificial-intelligence sector as the head of OpenAI — currently valued at $157 billion, with investors that include Microsoft and Nvidia. Co-founded by Altman in 2015, the company is responsible for the revolutionary AI chatbot ChatGPT and the recently launched Sora gen-AI video system. Originally, OpenAI was established as a not-for-profit research lab; Altman is now navigating the company’s path forward as a commercial venture. (Elon Musk, one of OpenAI’s co-founders, has sued the company, alleging it has violated its nonprofit charter.) Before being named CEO of OpenAI in 2019, Altman was president of start-up accelerator Y Combinator. He studied computer science at Stanford University before dropping out to form Loopt, a location-sharing app start-up.
